A/Prof Peter Foley

Associate Professor Peter Foley graduated MBBS, BMedSc from Monash University in 1987, and MD from The University of Melbourne in 1996. He completed his dermatology training in Melbourne, obtaining Fellowship of the Australasian College of Dermatologists in 1997. He is Director of Research at the Skin Health Institute and the Head of Dermatology Research at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. He currently holds the position of Associate Professor, Department of Medicine at The University of Melbourne. In addition to running a busy private practice, he is a visiting medical officer to the Photobiology, Dermatology Biologics, and Dermatology Investigation clinics at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, and the Phototherapy, Atopic Dermatitis and Psoriasis Advanced Targeted Therapies clinics at the Skin Health Institute.

His interests include psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, hidradenitis suppurativa, photosensitivity disorders, and non-surgical management of nonmelanoma skin cancers. Associate Professor Foley is Australia’s only councilor on the International Psoriasis Council, is a founding member of the Australasian Psoriasis Collaboration, is co-convener of the Australasian Psoriasis Registry, is co-convenor, Australian Psoriasis Treatment Goals, is a former steering committee member of the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis GRAPPA), and a former member of the Scientific Research & Academic Committees, The Australasian College of Dermatologists. He is participating in the NPS MedicineWise bDMARD program, is part of the My Psoriatic Arthritis Expert Advisory Group, has joined the International Dermatology Outcome Measures (IDEOM) Psoriatic Arthritis Musculo-Skeletal Symptoms workgroup, and is on the Board of the Photomedicine Society. He remains a longstanding member on Cancer Council Australia’s National Skin Cancer Committee and was part of the writing group for the revision of Keratinocyte Carcinoma Guidelines. He is a member of The Australasian College of Dermatologists’ COVID-19 Taskforce and the Skin Health Institute’s COVID-19 Medical Response Team, is a former Board Member and Past-President of Skin Health Institute, and has recently completed his tenure on the Victoria Faculty of The Australasian College of Dermatologists, moving on to join the College’s GP Taskforce and Workplace-based Assessment Working Group.

He has been an investigator in over 150 clinical trials and has over 150 published manuscripts
