Outline & Components
This course offers a combination of online and face to face workshop learning.
It consists of eight online modules and three workshops – two 4-hour online workshops and one full day face-to-face workshop held in Melbourne. For dates and times, please see the "Dates" tab.

- Anatomy and physiology of the skin
- Ultraviolet radiation
- Lesion recognition
- Clinical assessment of lesions and dermoscopy
- Melanography imaging procedures
- Procedural guidelines for melanography practice
- Safety, security and ergonomics in the clinic

WORKSHOPS
Workshop Day 1 – Online
5.30pm – 9.30pm
Workshop 1 provides the participant with the opportunity to consolidate learning in preparation for practice. Through discussion and activities, the participant will explore the knowledge and skills required for conducting skin and lesion assessment and taking images.
At the end of the workshop the learner will demonstrate the following learning outcomes:
- Outline the principles for total body photography and lesion imaging.
- Describe a skin assessment using a standardised assessment sequence.
- Recognise the components of acceptable image quality to meet quality standards in photography.
- Recognise dermoscopic features of melanocytic lesions within in a series of lesion images.
Workshop Day 2 – Online
5.30pm – 9.30pm
Workshop 2 provides the participant with the opportunity to consolidate learning in preparation for practice. Through discussion and activities, the participant will explore the communication skills and health education information required for conducting skin and lesion assessment and taking images.
At the end of the workshop the learner will demonstrate the following learning outcomes:
- Explain the importance of good verbal and written communication skills.
- Provide information regarding assessed risk and individualised health information relevant to risk.
- Recognise dermoscopic features of keratinocyte lesions and other lesions with cutaneous manifestations within a series of lesion images.
- Demonstrate recognition of dermoscopic features of melanocytic lesions within in a series of lesion images.
Workshop Day 3 – Face to face (Melbourne)
9.00am – 17.00pm
Workshop 3 provides the participant with the opportunity to practice and demonstrate competency in a full body melanography session; the workshop program provides a pathway to competence, guiding the participant from concept to practice.
At the end of the workshop the learner will demonstrate the following learning outcomes:
- Demonstrate developing competence in total body photography and lesion imaging.
- Perform a full skin assessment using a standardised assessment sequence.
- Demonstrate appropriate use of dermoscopy in lesion assessment.
- Recognise the components of acceptable image quality to meet quality standards in photography.

Please note: As considerable costs are involved with planning our workshops, the following charges will apply to enrol for another workshop, should you miss the one that you are registered for:
Cancellation prior to 7 days of the workshop:
You can enroll in the next workshop at no additional cost
Cancellation within 7 days of workshop: $475
Cancellation within 48 hours of workshop: $950
Health issues and other extenuating circumstances with supporting documentation provided, will be considered for fee exemption, upon consultations with one of our team members.
ASSESSMENTS
Include: online investigation, categorisation activities, multiple choice quizzes and a research papers.

One low course fee includes access to the course for the duration of study and workshop.

Course Dates
Course Dates
You will receive access to your course for 16 weeks from time of enrolment. However, the interactive elements relevant to the course, such as webinars and workshops will only occur during Trimester times.
It is important that you enrol in this course before the first online workshop date of the relevant Trimester. If you enrol after this date, your course will only start in the following trimester.
The face to face workshop is held in Melbourne.
All workshops are mandatory. Please only enrol in this course if you are available on the below dates.

Current enrolments will be allocated to Trimester 1 with a start date of 10th of February 2025.

Course Learning Outcomes
At the successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Apply knowledge of skin anatomy, physiology and histopathology to melanography practice
Relate skin cancer pathology to visible lesion features
Explain the effects of ultraviolet radiation on the skin
Conduct a thorough visual skin cancer assessment of a patient
Recognize skin lesions using clinical and dermoscopic criteria
Accurately identify skin lesions that require photographic imaging for diagnosis and or surveillance
Demonstrate competent skin photography skills
Provide education to patients about skin cancer and its prevention
Carry out total body and individual lesion photography in accordance with a quality standard.
Identify key elements for a melanographer to run a clinic efficiently and safely
