Outline & Components

This course aims to provide GPs with the skills and knowledge to perform basic dermatological surgery and procedures and manage surgical risk and complications.  This course consists of seven online modules:

  1. Cryotherapy

  2. Intralesional steroids

  3. Biopsy techniques

  4. Curettage & Cautery

  5. Non-Surgical treatments of skin cancer

  6. Cutaneous surgical anatomy & danger zones

  7. Patient management pre and post operatively


Webinars & Case Discussion Forum

Attend or watch online webinars and participate in open discussion on diagnosis and management direct with our expert Dermatologists. 

 

Practice Scenarios

Respond to authentic clinical case studies and challenge yourself to provide a diagnosis and first-step management plan on the clinical information and dermoscopic images.

 

Assessment

Assessment for this course requires the satisfactory completion of topic based quizzes and practice scenarios, participation in the case discussion forum, submission of 1 case study and a final MCQ exam.

Required Hours

The course requires 28 study hours.

Please be advised that the interactive components of this course – webinars and marking of case studies – are only run during Trimester times. Please ensure you select which Trimester you would like to start in.

At the successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  •  Describe how to perform basic dermatological surgery and procedures (cryotherapy, biopsies, electrodessication and curettage, intralesional steroid injection, and suturing).

  • Determine the appropriate circumstances in which to perform basic  dermatological surgery and procedures.

  • Assess the risks and complications relating to basic  dermatological surgery and procedures.

  • Determine when and how to use non-surgical treatments for skin cancer.

  • Determine ways surgical risk may be managed.

  • 18 Educational Activity Hours

Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a statement of completion with the number of awarded CPD hours in compliance with the RACGP CPD program requirements. You will also be awarded a certificate for the completed course issued by Dermatology Australasia.

Completion of this course does not provide you with qualifications in dermatology or guarantee you access into the ACD Specialist Training Program. In order to practice as a Specialist Dermatologist you must complete the ACD Specialist Training Program.
